The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) organization provides lucrative grants to researchers and those in the agriculture business to promote sustainable economy practices. SARE offers competitive grants to researchers, agricultural educators, farmers and ranchers, and students in the United States, ranging up to more than $150,000.

The program provides grants typically between $1,000 and $15,000 to producers, and larger grants in the $30,000 to $150,000 range for research and education grants.

Those interested in obtaining a SARE grant must write a grant proposal based on one of calls for proposal in a particular SARE region. The organization is divided into regions: Northeast, North Central, Southern, and Western. Those interested in a grant should check in his or her region to see if a relevant request for proposal is available there.

The Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program was founded in 1988, and is part of the USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. It funds projects and conducts outreach designed to improve agricultural systems.

SARE has helped advance farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities through the nationwide research and education grants program.

More information about SARE's grant program, along with general information about sustainable farming and ranching techniques, can be found at SARE's website: www.sare.org.
