Washington, DC — As a socially responsible business or individual concerned about climate change, what do you do after you've changed your lighting, heating and other energy-using appliances? You are saving energy and money but are still producing pollution that causes climate change. Now you can eliminate your remaining climate footprint with Carbonfund.org.

Carbonfund.org purchases and retires carbon dioxide credits for individuals and businesses, reducing CO2 and the dangers of climate change, while supporting climate-friendly projects globally. "Carbonfund.org provides forward-thinking individuals, businesses, congregations and other groups a simple and affordable opportunity to make an immediate and tangible difference in the fight against global climate change,” says Carbonfund.org President Lesley Marcus Carlson.

“Whether you own a hybrid or a Hummer, now anyone can reduce their climate footprint to zero," adds Carlson. "Offsetting your climate footprint is important because the threat of climate change is too important to ignore or put off to our children," she continues. Offsetting your climate footprint is simple: Individuals or companies choose to offset a fixed amount of carbon dioxide or calculate their specific carbon footprint with an easy-to-use online calculator. Supporters receive a certificate for their donation. All donations are tax deductible.

Carbonfund.org purchases carbon dioxide credits supporting a variety of offset projects around the world, including energy efficiency, wind, solar, biomass and others. The credits are permanently retired, reducing the total amount of greenhouse gases that can be emitted. “Quite simply, we offer individuals and businesses the lowest-cost, easiest-to-use pathway to reducing their climate change impact. Basically, we buy carbon and retire it,” says Carlson.

Carbonfund.org offsets CO2 for just $5.50 per ton. Other groups, mostly for profits, charge between $9-30 per ton of CO2. Many organizations have wed themselves to a technology or location with a high carbon offset cost. Carbonfund.org supports a portfolio of projects and technologies, allowing us to keep costs.

“Making carbon offsets inexpensive is critical to building a mass acceptance among individuals and businesses to remove their climate footprint,” adds Carlson. “For just a $55 tax deductible donation, the average person can offset their climate footprint with Carbonfund.org. “And you’ll know your supporting a nonprofit group that is committed to solving our climate change problems.”

Carbon dioxide results from the burning of fossil fuels, primarily coal and oil, and is the main greenhouse gas responsible for climate change. Reducing CO2 protects us from the threat of climate change. Carbonfund.org purchases and retires CO2 emissions from around the world, reducing global CO2 emissions. Businesses may donate credits they already have to Carbonfund.org for permanent retirement and the tax benefits. Carbonfund.org also develops joint fundraising and carbon offset programs with other nonprofit organizations.

Carbonfund.org is a 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization and a member of the Ceres, the Chicago Climate Exchange and the EPA’s Green Power Partnership.
