TOKYO — Seiko Epson Corp. said Thursday its LQ-590K serial impact dot matrix printer has become the first printer made outside China to receive energy conservation accreditation from the Chinese government.

The printer is produced at P.T. Indonesia Epson Industry.

China has introduced the energy conservation accreditation as part of its energy conservation efforts, requiring some government agencies to give priority to products with the accreditation in procurement from 2005. The requirement will be fully implemented throughout China by January 2007.

Seiko Epson also said some printers made in China had obtained similar accreditation earlier, allowing the company to offer products with such accreditation in all of the inkjet, laser, and serial dot matrix printer categories.
