A Hydrogen Economy. Why Not?
August 28, 2007 07:18 PM - Bruce Mulliken, Private Landowner Network
Hydrogen economy: These are two words not often seen together any more. The concept of a hydrogen economy has stalled, but is not dead, perhaps just waiting for new ideas, new technologies, new breakthroughs - thus renewed interest - to push it forward. The hydrogen economy meant running our cars and houses (mostly our cars) on the clean fuel and carrier of energy. Hydrogen fuel cells work perfectly well, yet are still expensive, and certainly hydrogen can be used as a fuel in internal combustion engines: BMW has a fleet hydrogen fueled sedans. The real stagnation point is in the generation, transportation and storage of the lighter-than-air-gas, the hydrogen infrastructure.

Sun Drenched Parking Lots: A National Energy Asset
August 15, 2007 07:14 PM - Bruce Mulliken, Private Landowner Network
Whether it be photovoltaic solar or solar thermal power generation - solar power takes up a lot of space. Solar energy’s footprint is large. Solar can cover considerable real estate and real estate can be expensive. One Solar company has an idea. Rethink the air space above the nation’s parking lots as a solar asset. In the car-driven US economy with its sprawling suburban shopping malls, office and industrial parks there is no shortage of tarmac on which to park cars.
Jatropha Curcas: Promising Biofuel Or Invasive Species?
August 15, 2007 07:06 PM - Bruce Mulliken, Private Landowner Network
Generally speaking, transplanting a species from one part of the world to another - either accidentally or on purpose - has, on occasion, had some really negative consequences. A prime example is kudzu that was moved from Asia to the southeast US beginning in the 1930’s to control erosion. It did that but now kudzu overgrows just about everything in its path and is almost impossible to get rid of.

Nanotech materials - made from bits of materials in the dimensional realm of 1 -100 nanometers (nm)(nm= one billionth of a meter) - are in the early stages of offering breakthrough opportunities in energy storage and conversion of one form of energy to another - sunlight to electric power for instance.
Zero Emission Electric Vechicle Meets American Roads on Two Wheels

It may be a few more years before a high-performance all-electric vehicle like the Tesla sports car is available for Joe (or Josephine) Average consumer. At the better part of $100,000 the Tesla is intended for the green-minded well-to-do, not the rest of us. But if a four wheeled electric vehicle is out of reach, what about one with two?
