EPA Develops Regulations for Geologic CO2 Sequestration

The EPA announced plans to develop regulations to establish a clear path for geologic sequestration, a process of injecting captured carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, in deep rock formations for long-term storage. Once completed, the regulations will ensure there is a consistent and effective permit system under the Safe Drinking Water Act for commercial-scale geologic sequestration programs to help reduce the effects of climate change.

Hybrid Hydrogen Fuel Cell System Develops

Exide Technologies, a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, announced today it has signed an agreement with Ballard Power Systems to develop an on-board hybrid hydrogen fuel cell and lead-acid battery energy system for the forklift truck (or materials handling) market. Exide plans to meet all its hydrogen fuel cell needs in the forklift truck market over the next five years exclusively with Ballard fuel cells.

BOSTON - Constellation Energy today announced that its subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy, has entered into a green electricity purchase agreement with the Jurys Boston Hotel. As part of the agreement, Constellation NewEnergy will provide approximately 7 million kilowatt hours of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for 100 percent of the hotel's electricity usage, making Jurys one of the first hotels in Boston to match its entire load with green energy sources.

NEW ZELAND - Kiwis cleared their homes of nearly 300 tonnes of old computer equipment and mobile phones this past weekend in New Zealand's first national eDay.  The free drive-through event was held at the North Shore Events Centre and the TelstraClear Events Centre in Manukau, and in Wellington, Invercargill, Wanaka, Alexandra, Queenstown, Wanganui, Rotorua, Whakatane, Tauranga and Hamilton.

Europe's Largest Mobile Phone Recycling Facility to Open in UK

In a recent announcement made by Excel Fortune Holdings Ltd, it has been confirmed that Europe's largest mobile phone recycling facility will be established in Wales, UK to service and supply what has until now been a fragmented supply chain.  The company, headed up by telecoms industry veteran Mike Bandeira, has committed GBP6million to the venture with an estimated total start-up investment, including capital turnover, of GBP15million. The project has also been offered funding by the Welsh Assembly Government.
