Portland, Oregon – Imagine a gift basket that thinks local and acts global. That's what an Oregon businesswoman did and created what she describes as a 'green tool kit', which, is an assortment of simple tools that each make significant contributions to a greener world. The idea is a a thoughtful alternative to the traditional gift basket.

The tool kit includes simple, everyday products that conserve and sustain. Look inside, and you'll find tire gauges, reusable grocery bags, aluminum water bottles and biodegradable doggy business bags, and more. A wide assortment of products- all simple, all green.

GreenLemonaide, a Portland based conservation and sustainability company, launched the product idea, called Green Toolkits. Stephanie Knight, GreenLemonaide owner and toolkit creator, has designed kits to be simple aids to live green and limit their impact on the environment.

“The impact we place on the environment seems to be on the top of a lot of people’s mind lately. Everyone would like to be greener, but many aren’t sure where to start”, says Knight.

“In my own personal quest to live a more sustainable life, I have found that the changes don’t have to be major. Little things make a big difference. I want to help start others down the path and pass on simple things that they can do to save energy, natural resources and reduce carbon emissions. These toolkits give people the kick start they need to implement green practices in their daily life”, concludes Knight.

Knight explains it as "responsible gift-giving". She explains "the tool kits spread knowledge and a feeling of contribution with easy-to-use, everyday products that lessen the impact on our world. It’s a different way of thinking about gift giving that will spark a different way of thinking about the environment."

Each product includes information explaining how its use can help with conservation and sustainability. The Sigg water bottles are labeled with the message “Over 30 million non-biodegradable plastic water bottles end up in landfills every day. Use and re-use this durable Sigg water bottle. It has a special resin on the inside to ensure that no harmful chemicals get between you and refreshment.” The Smart Strip label explains, “Sometimes off is still on. When you turn your computer off, your monitor and printer are still drawing electricity.

The Smart Strip senses when you have powered down and automatically suspends power to your peripherals. You’ll be saving energy you never even knew you were wasting.” The Tire Pressure Gauge label states, “We can’t all own hybrids, but we can squeeze more fuel efficiency out of our current vehicles.

Keeping your tires properly inflated is a good place to start. It can improve gas mileage, keep hundreds of pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere and extend your tire life by up to 25%.” These unique messages help the receiver understand how making small changes can make a big difference.
