New Hybrid Recycling Trucks on the Road

/pollution/article/37438

The Peterbilt Motor Company has rolled out two medium-duty hybrid work trucks to be used for garbage and recycling pickup, reports Riverwired.

Peterbilt now has four hybrid trucks on the market. The trucks use regenerative braking, which means that in addition to slowing the vehicle like in a gas-powered machine, the brakes also generate electicity. This electricity is stored and “provides torque to the truck’s driveline to improve vehicle performance, operating the engine in a more fuel-efficient range, or to operate only with electric power,” according to the company’s site.

The trucks show a 30-60 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, depending on the model.
