Biofueled Race Team Seeks Sponsorship for 2009 Dakar Rally

/press_releases/2627

Fairfield, IA (September 2, 2008)- Team Kenya Kwanza is seeking corporate sponsorship for their biofueled vehicle to compete in the 2009 Dakar Rally, the largest off-road rally race in the world. The race team is a big advocate for sustainability, and it plans to raise awareness about environmental issues in a great way. Troy Van Beek, rally navigator and former U.S Navy Seal, says that today we must incorporate sustainability into all facets of our lives. “We need to remain socially responsible in all aspects of what we do,” He says, “even in the racing industry.”

The team’s firm commitment to sustainability represents an opportunity for sponsors to receive a lot of great publicity. Already, they have gotten the support from the Environmental News Network (ENN), one of the oldest and biggest environmental news wire services in the world, and they have agreed to support all major sponsors with press release distribution and promotion. “This race is seen by millions worldwide,” says Lawrence Norton, Editor-in-Chief at ENN, “so we are really excited about this opportunity.”

They have also been approached for a documentary project. “This team is racing for sustainability,” says Alex Cequea, a principal of Tidal Wave Group- a media, marketing, and green consulting firm dedicated to spotlighting Team Kenya Kwanza’s environmental efforts. “Their car is a vehicle of social change, so naturally it makes for a good story.”
Team Kenya Kwanza is comprised of two-time Safari Rally Champion, Glen Edmunds, and former U.S. Navy seal-turned sustainability advocate Troy Van Beek. They are excited about the opportunity to race in Dakar using biofuels, but they know that it won’t happen unless a sponsorship takes them up on this historic opportunity. Winning the race on biofuel has the potential to forever change Dakar and the entire sport. The sponsors who back them up will enjoy a great deal of positive exposure at a global level.
