Texas Co-Op Takes the Lead in Environmental Stewardship; Urges Others to Follow
BASTROP, TX — Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative announced today that it will be the first Texas electric cooperative to join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Leaders program. By joining Climate Leaders, Bluebonnet pledges to reduce its corporate-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, continuing its ongoing commitment to environmental improvement.
“Clearly we all need to take an active role in preserving and enhancing our environment,” said Mark Rose, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative’s general manager and CEO. “For Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, a partnership with Climate Leaders means we’re taking proactive measures to ensure we are doing all we can to guarantee a bright future for generations to come.”

Climate Leaders is an EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Partner companies such as Bluebonnet commit to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of their greenhouse gas emissions based on a quality management system, setting aggressive reduction goals and annually reporting their progress to the EPA. Through program participation, companies create a credible record of their accomplishments and receive EPA recognition as corporate environmental leaders.
In this time of global warming and generation constraints, Bluebonnet is committed to keeping reliable and affordable electric service while ensuring the safety and health of their communities. By joining Climate Leaders, Bluebonnet can now calculate their current carbon footprint and plan for future reduction.
In addition to partnering with Climate Leaders, Bluebonnet participates in the Renewable Energy Credit program, which offers a Green Energy Rate to their members. For every member who signs up, Bluebonnet purchases the amount of energy those members use from a renewable energy source.
