Over 200 Leaders Expected at Annapolis Banquet Showcasing Maryland Environmental & Scientific Leadership
Baltimore, November 2, 2009. Over 200 leaders from Maryland government, business, and academia are expected to gather on the evening of December 3 at the Miller Senate Office Building in Annapolis to pay tribute to The Maryland-Asia Environmental Partnership's (MD-AEP) 2009 Environmental Leadership Series hosts. The evening program will showcase Battelle; Coca-Cola Enterprises; I.M. Systems Group; Spiralcat of Maryland; University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources; University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES); University of Maryland's ESSIC (Climate Change Center); and Zephyr Environmental Corporation.
Dr. Robert Summers, Deputy Secretary of Maryland's Department of Environment and Bob Agee, the City Administrator of Annapolis will join MD-AEP President Peter Gourlay on the program along with Aris Melissaratos, Senior Advisor to the President for Enterprises Development at Johns Hopkins University and author of "Prosperity through Innovation." Â Melissaratos will present a special MD-AEP Green Manufacturing Leadership Award to Dr. Michael Galiazzo, Executive Director of the Regional Manufacturing Institute in recognition of his green leadership for Maryland manufacturing.
The MD-AEP Environmental Leadership Series was launched in the Annapolis Bay-Stat Room in January 2009 featuring UMCES. "Our goal is to help showcase Maryland's great scientific and business assets that can help bring solutions to Asia's massive water, energy and climate change problems," said Gourlay. During 2009, MD-AEP cris-crossed the state and partnered with Maryland business and government to highlight Maryland-based organizations which collectively represent world-class technology, research, science and governance applications with tremendous potential for export.
"These organizations represent great technologies and approaches to address Asia's sustainable development needs. Our environmental industry is very diffuse, but when you connect the dots between our governance, science, research, technology, and lessons learned, we are an environmental solutions powerhouse. If we marshal these collective resources smartly, there are great business opportunities in Asia for Maryland-based groups," said Gourlay. The Banquet will also provide a great setting for the announcement of Maryland's hosting of the 2011 Environmental Management of Enclosed Coastal Seas global summit.
Tickets: Special early-bird tickets are $60 if you register before November 7; and $75 thereafter. For registration and sponsorship information, go to www.mdaep.com or register at http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=785668
