Biking for the Bog
September 8, 2012, Collin Cavell and Cameron Wilson are turning the Whistler Granfondo ride into a fundraiser for the Burns Bog Conservation Society. Collin and Cameron are asking you to sponsor them by donating to the Society. Their goal is $1500.00. Proceeds support the Burns Bog Conservation Society’s education programs, building and maintaining the boardwalk in the Delta Nature Reserve.
Cameron and Collin decided to use the Granfondo as a fundraiser for the Burns Bog Conservation Society because of recent threats to the Bog and its wildlife. They want future generations to smell the Labrador tea, watch the eagles circle overhead and listen to the ancient cry of the Sandhill cranes.
They are two North Delta boys who decided to combine their love of biking and fundraise for the Burns Bog Conservation Society at the same time.
“Supporting the Burns Bog Conservation Society gives us a chance to have a positive impact on this globally unique ecosystem in our backyard,” stated Cameron.
”We want future generations to have the same opportunity to enjoy the scenic trails and wildlife like we do,” commented Collin.
Cameron played professional soccer for Bristol City FC, UK, before returning to North Delta.
He is a student at the British Columbia Institute of Technology in their Airport Operations program. When he is not going to school or working at the Vancouver International Airport Operations Centre, Cameron is a volunteer coach for the Surdel Girls Soccer Association or riding his bike through the Delta Nature Reserve.
Collin is a University of British Columbia graduate where he studied Materials Engineering. He works for TCS Performance Products, designing aftermarket automatic transmission parts. Like Cameron, Collin enjoys riding his bike through the Delta Nature Reserve on the edge of Burns Bog.
This is what gave them the idea to turn the 122 km Whistler Granfondo into a fundraiser for the Burns Bog Conservation Society.

The Burns Bog Conservation Society is a 24 year-old registered charity founded in 1988 to act as stewards of Burns Bog, provide facilities for public enjoyment and to educate people about how important Burns Bog and other peatlands are to our long-term survival.
