Target Reducing Use of PVC: Report

By Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Target Corp said it is reducing its use of the plastic polyvinyl chloride in packaging and children's products like lunch boxes and bibs, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Environmentalists have pushed for a phase-out of PVC, which is used in a massive variety of products, including pipes, cables, floors, packaging, clothing and toys.

According to the Journal, Target said it is using alternatives such as recycled paperboard or corrugated packaging, as well as ethylene vinyl acetate, another type of plastic, for products like shower curtains.

In some products, the retailer will use phthalate-free PVC, the Journal reported.
