Grease those gears -- tomorrow, May 19, is National Bike to Work Day! The Bike to Work Day campaign aims to have more commuters try this environmentally friendly commuting option.
Jerry Kay spoke to Deb Hubsmith of the Bike to Work Day campaign of the San Francisco Bike Coalition:
Hubsmith says Bike to Work Day has been happening across the US for many years now, in fact, it's the 49th anniversary of the year the League of American Bicyclists declared May to be National Bike Month. She points out that since 1985 more people have taken to bicycling -- a survey shows that it's the second-most employed commuting option next to cars.
With traffic increasing, bikes are sometimes a faster option than other forms of transit. And of course, bicycling has environmental as well as health benefits:
