Jerry Kay talked to Deb Hubsmith of the Bike to Work Day campaign of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

Hubsmith says that linking bikes to transit is the wave of the future. More public transit organizations are attaching bike racks to buses, and installing more bike racks in transit stations. These changes are happening in places like New York and Chicago as well as the Bay Area. Also, bicycle "stations" are appearing in places, where the commuter can get coffee and have the bike serviced while at work.

More bikeways are paralleling rail routes, according to Hubsmith, so that commuters can bike part of the way to work and link to a train. And more event planners are providing bike parking, making bike travel an option after work as well.
