Clinton Global Initiative Event to be Carbon Neutral

NEW YORK — GreenOrder, Inc., a New York-based environmental strategy and marketing firm, announced today that it is working as a partner organization with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), organized by former President Bill Clinton, to offset CGI’s greenhouse gas impact and make it “carbon neutral.”

GreenOrder will calculate the climate impact of the first CGI event, which begins today in New York and ends on September 17, including the approximate amount of greenhouse gas emissions associated with attendees’ travel from around the world and with the event’s energy use. The impact will then be offset by CGI through financing of renewable energy projects that replace fossil-fuel energy sources.

GreenOrder also has responded to former President Clinton’s request for “commitments to take action” by offering free half-day strategy workshops to organizations participating in CGI. The goal of these workshops is to help leading corporations or other large entities to develop strategies related to climate change that support their broader mission and objectives.

CGI will gather world leaders from government, business, academia, and the nonprofit sector to identify immediate and pragmatic solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems, including climate change that is caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are delighted to be working with former President Clinton on this global nonpartisan effort to develop concrete solutions to urgent challenges,” said Andrew L. Shapiro, GreenOrder’s Founder and CEO. “Like President Clinton, we believe new business strategies and technological innovations can do much to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to global climate change.”

Regarding GreenOrder’s offer of free climate workshops, Shapiro added: “Too many organizations develop strategies related to climate and sustainability in isolation, without regard to other key goals of the enterprise. By doing so, they weaken their environmental commitments and miss opportunities to use sustainability as a source of innovation and success. GreenOrder has helped companies to adopt a smarter approach, establishing greenhouse gas reduction programs and other climate and sustainability initiatives that align with their business objectives ” whether related to operations and cost, revenue and profitability, marketing, reputation, brand, or other priorities.”
