EarthNews Radio: Wetlands Restoration

There are many efforts across the US to restore and protect our wetlands which actually can reduce mosquito populations, and the diseases they carry such as West Nile Virus.

Jerry Kay spoke to Ellie Cohen of PRBO Conservation Science:

Wetland Restoration

Cohen said that wetlands restoration is effective in minimizing mosquito populations if done properly because of the effect of tidal fluctuations, for instance.

PRBO is part of the San Francisco Joint Venture. The Joint Venture has among its important partners mosquito control districts in its wetland restoration effort, using environmentally-friendly methods to reduce mosquito populations.
