What would it sound like if we played music on Mars?

Jerry Kay spoke to Dr. Paul Doherty, a physicist at the Morrison Planetarium of the California Academy of Sciences:

Sounds on the Red Planet

Doherty explained that the Martian atmosphere is only about 1% as thick as that on Earth, so you'd have to wear earplugs, to reduce the sound coming into your ears to 1%.

Gravity on Mars is only about one-third that of Earth. You could jump high and carry heavy weights, but walking and running would be less easy -- you'd have to hop!
