Nov. 4—TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. and its affiliate Daihatsu Motor Co. said Thursday they have developed a new environment-friendly water painting technology in collaboration with Kansai Paint Co.

The technology will be able to simultaneously reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds and carbon dioxide by 70 percent and 15 percent, respectively, the two automakers said.

As it was difficult for previous painting technologies to cut emissions of the two air pollutants at the same time, the car producers began developing a new technology together with Kansai Paint, they said.

The new technology will be put to practical use at a Daihatsu subsidiary's auto body factory in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture, scheduled to become operational next month, they said.
