AUSTIN, Texas — Pavilion Technologies announced that the company's predictive emissions monitoring software that is used to monitor and predict nitrogen oxide (NOx) and oxygen (O2) emissions at Golden Grain Energy demonstrated conformance with Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) monitoring requirements. Despite the challenging conditions presented the, process met the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Iowa DNR relative accuracy requirements. Pavilion's technology has been adopted by seven ethanol plants; however, this marks the first new generation ICM-designed ethanol plant to install Pavilion's software solution to meet Clean Air Act air quality standards.

"As a renewable energy company, we are committed to meeting environmental standards while ensuring we meet the demands of our farmer shareholders," said Chad E. Kuhlers, plant manager of Golden Grain. "Pavilion's smart team tackled our tough process and provided us with a cost-effective software solution that delivered results. As an added benefit, we better understand key variables that impact our NOx emissions -- insight we could not have gleaned from a hardware approach."

Golden Grain began production at its ethanol plant near Mason City, Iowa in December 2004. The plant will process over 15 million bushels of corn into 55 million gallons of ethanol and 120,000 tons of distiller's grains annually. Golden Grain was built by design-builder Fagen Engineering and incorporates a process design provided by ICM, Inc.

"Our environmental engineers have a strong background in air quality regulation and understand the unique challenges ethanol manufacturers face," said Ralph Carter, president and CEO of Pavilion Technologies. "Pavilion's quick project execution and sustained value enable our customers to drive profitability in the face of rising energy costs and increasingly stringent environmental regulations. In addition, Pavilion's ValueFirst program guarantees that our customers are satisfied with the solution."

Pavilion's environmental compliance software solutions enable manufacturers to continuously monitor and achieve compliance. The operating environment for ethanol stacks is prone to extreme conditions where moisture content can exceed 55 percent and the operating temperatures are very high. As a result operators are often overburdened with the costly maintenance of traditional hardware analyzers. At Golden Grain, Pavilion's software solution can accurately monitor and predict NOx, by modeling combustion variables of the dryer and Thermal oxidizer. By using Pavilion's solution, ethanol manufacturers can achieve emissions compliance and decrease maintenance costs.
