WORCESTER, Massachusetts — Mass Megawatts Wind Power, Inc. has started sending test equipment to an island near San Salvador Island in the West Indies for determining the feasibility of wind-diesel power plant applications.


Part of the test equipment and barge shipping cost is financed by a local group of businessmen and engineers who are interested in purchasing at least one 50kW Multiaxis Turbosystem from Mass Megawatts. It would be used as the wind energy component of the proposed wind diesel project. The Multiaxis Turbosystem can be built on a small island without the need for the transportation and use of an expensive crane, unlike most wind energy systems. The local engineers and construction professionals would assist the project's diesel component and it's engineering.


Wind-diesel is an energy supply system that combines diesel powered electrical generators with wind energy systems. It would operate when wind power is available to reduce the use of diesel fuel. This hybrid application is used for remote areas where the price of fuel is much higher than most of the world. Wind-diesel applications are currently in place in Alaska, Northern Canada and many small island grids around the world.
