Do you wonder about the materials that are used to make the wrapper on the sandwich that you get at the deli? In Europe, many are avoiding traditional plastic wraps in favor of more environmentally friendly products.
Jerry Kay spoke to Stefan Gudmundsson, CEO of Diamante Film Inc., the maker of Diamant Food Wrap:
Gudmundsson says that for the last ten years, more people in Europe have been avoiding plastic wrap that contains a plasticizer that softens PVC. Diamant's product does not contain the plasticizer, which could leech into the food you eat causing health risks.
Switzerland has banned PVC from food wrap and Japan's grocery stores are moving away from PVC-contained food wrap as well.
Diamant is a Canadian company which trades on the Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board (symbol: DIAAF) in the US, and is aiming to market alternatives to plastic wrap in North America. You can learn more about it on its website:www.diamantfilm.com
