An emerging term in the business world is the "triple bottom line." Just what is the triple bottom line?
Jerry Kay spoke with Karl Ostrom, Executive Director of the Network for Business Innovation and Sustainability:
Ostrom says that the triple bottom line refers to the need for sustainable businesses to provide benefits in three ways. It must have a benefit to the environment or the world at large; it must have a benefit to the community, through for instance living wages for employees; and of course it must make a profit.
In other words, the triple bottom line is doing business in a way that brings benefit to people, planet, and profit.
