TBILISI (Reuters) - Georgian leader Mikhail Saakashvili won a snap presidential election with 52.8 percent of the vote, election officials said on Sunday.

The result gave Saakashvili just over half of the vote needed to win outright in the first round and avoid a runoff.

The final tally was for mainland Georgia. It did not include a handful of polling stations abroad which were unlikely to change the result, a central election commission spokesman said.
