AK Steel Corp. will receive $150,000 in an Ohio Business and Roadwork Development grant, the state said Monday.
Oct. 19—MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — AK Steel Corp. will receive $150,000 in an Ohio Business and Roadwork Development grant, the state said Monday.
The money is part of a $65.7 million project to bring AK's Middletown Works in line with approaching federal air pollution emission standards, the Ohio Department of Development said. The overall project is expected to retain more than 1,000 jobs, the state said.
James Wainscott, AK's president and chief executive, announced the project in January, putting to rest uncertainty about the future of the "front end" of Middletown Works, where raw materials are brought together to begin to make steel.
In March, Middletown-based AK and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency announced an agreement settling the state's air nuisance claims against AK and outlining a plan to update Middletown Works emissions equipment.
