The National Center for Healthy Housing has released two fact sheets to help parents make sense of the recent recalls of toys tainted with lead paint. The first fact sheet titled "Testing for Lead in Consumer Items," explains the various options that parents have for testing household items to confirm or deny the presence of lead. The second fact sheet titled "Toys and Childhood Lead Exposure" explains how lead ends up in toys and how the lead can be ingested by children through normal play.

Chinese Officials To Visit U.S. For Safety Talks
China will send delegations to the United States in August and September to discuss food and product safety following a spate of product recalls, a Chinese Embassy official said on Wednesday. Zhao Baoqing, first commercial secretary of the embassy, told reporters the senior-level delegations would discuss the recent problems and Chinese safety measures with U.S. authorities from the Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Houston Pipeline Company Fined $2.8 Million For Dumping Oil, Gas Into Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma Waterways
Two Houston-based oil and gas distributors will pay a civil penalty of approximately $2.8 million for discharging approximately 6,470 barrels of jet fuel, gasoline and crude oil into multiple waterways in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma between November 2001 and May 2005, the Justice Department and Environmental Protection Agency announced today. The companies are TE Products Pipeline Co. LLC and TEPPCO Crude Pipeline, LLC (collectively TEPPCO).
