Kimberly-Clark Corp.'s cash commitment to support South Asia tsunami disaster relief could hit $1.5 million, the firm has announced.
Jan. 6--NEENAH, Wis. -- Kimberly-Clark Corp.'s cash commitment to support South Asia tsunami disaster relief could hit $1.5 million, the firm has announced.
Retired executive vice president Kathi Seifert of Appleton presented K-C's donations to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) at NBC's New York studios during a special telethon that aired in the Fox Valley on WGBA-TV Channel 26 Wednesday evening.
The company originally announced a $100,000 contribution last week which it later boosted to $500,000 as the full magnitude of the catastrophe began to unfold.
It also pledged to match dollar for dollar gifts made by its employees to UNICEF's relief operation up to an additional $500,000. Combined, this brings K-C's and employees' cash donations to as much as $1.5 million.
Last week, the Dallas-based firm, the largest employer in the Fox Cities, donated 100,000 more gloves for use by health care workers at the request of local hospitals in South Asia.
The additional Safeskin gloves joined the loads of Huggies diapers, Kotex feminine pads and Scott tissue products shipped to the devastated region.
"As the magnitude of this disaster has grown, all of us at Kimberly-Clark felt compelled to do more," said Thomas J. Falk, K-C chairman and chief executive officer.
