HOUSTON (Reuters) - Tesoro Corp said increased amounts of sulfur dioxide were released into the air on Friday morning due to a change in operating conditions at its 100,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Los Angeles refinery.
"There was no equipment breakdown," said Tesoro's Natalie Silva in a statement. "The refinery is still running per the operating plan. We have reduced the sulfur content to ensure that we return sulfur dioxide emissions to normal levels."
The release was due to "a change in operating conditions" that resulted "in increased sulfur content of the combustion fuel," Silva said.
