In 2010, GEF was the first environmental event to be held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, attracting royal and government attendees as well as 80 exhibitors from 23 nations.

The venue for the forum is The Jeddah Hilton hotel. The Jeddah Hilton is located 10 minutes drive from the Jeddah International Airport (KAIA) and 15 minutes from the City Center. It is the largest hotel in Jeddah with 388 rooms; including 44 suites located on the Red Sea. Most of the rooms have sea views.
