Harvey Ball created the original smiley face in 1963. This famous symbol is used worldwide to represent good will and happiness. Since 1999, the first Friday in October is known as World Smile Day, a time to remember the true meaning of the smiley face, encourage acts of kindness and, of course, spread smiles. The Cuban crocodile has an impressive white smile. The broad teeth at the back of the mouth are thought to be adapted for crushing turtle shells.
