U.N. court clears ex-Kosovo PM of war crimes

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - The U.N. war crimes tribunal acquitted Kosovo's former Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj on Thursday of charges of torturing and murdering Serbs during the 1998-99 war.

Haradinaj, considered a hero among Kosovo Albanians, was cleared of all charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The verdict was met by loud cheers and applause from a packed public gallery.

Prosecutors had sought a prison sentence of 25 years.
