Goodbye cheap cotton T shirt. Hello ethical clothing! Cotton T shirts made in sweatshops that use up scarce fresh water are not wearing well for many companies anymore. Brands with sustainable business practices are increasingly looking to make their promotional items reflect their green values. The result can be a shirt that fits better for everyone. Eco360 Trust (www.eco360.me) produces recycled shirts with 5 major benefits to the environment, society and to companies promoting their green practices. Eco360 Trust is a campaign of the non-profit Institute for Sustainable Communication (www.sustaincom.org), which advises communications professionals on sustainability issues. Eco360 Trust raises funds for ISC's education program by producing customized performance apparel made from 100% recycled PET plastic bottles. All net proceeds pay for college scholarships for low income students. Producing the e360t shirts started as a project to teach students about the sustainable use of print and digital media. ISC redesigned the shirts to be fully sustainable, and the results appealed to both students and corporations trying to establish or protect their green reputations.

Producing the e360t shirts started as a project to teach students about the sustainable use of print and digital media. ISC redesigned the shirts to be fully sustainable, and the results appealed to both students and corporations trying to establish or protect their green reputations.

Eco360 Trust outlines the 5 benefits of their e360t shirts:

First, the shirts are made out of 100% recycled PET, which is the same plastic found in water and soda bottles. Each e360t shirt prevents at least three plastic bottles from being dumped in a landfill.

Second, the e360t shirts save fresh water. The shirts are printed digitally, so no fresh water is used to dye the fabric. Each e360t shirt saves 8 gallons of fresh water from being polluted with the dyes and chemicals used in cotton.

Third, the e360t shirts create U.S. jobs. The sewing is done in small American factories that pay a living wage, with safe working conditions and opportunities for upward mobility.

Fourth, the e360t shirts support education for low-income students. Each shirt is a tax deductible contribution, and their net proceeds help pay for micro scholarships for high achieving but economically disadvantaged college students

Lastly, the e360t shirts help companies improve their credibility by putting their sustainability commitment into practice. The shirts are an inexpensive way for companies to keep their brand messages consistent with their green policies.

For the holiday season, companies should consider giving promotional gifts that keep on giving. If ethical companies are changing their tune on green promos, they should change their shirts too.
