BRAINERD, Minn., Aug. 7 -- Watching what's going on with acquatic life -- underwater from their point of view -- in your local pond, lake, river or ocean just got easier, and a lot cheaper.

The technology is a cable-driven remote underwater camera in a lifelike fish shaped casing. It can be lowered into the water from a boat, canoe, kayak, raft or from a dock. The entire unit is a self-contained, fully-assembled battery powered underwater viewing system.

Fish TV, as it's called, includes a waterproof video camera and monitor. The unit is compact and easy to use. It sells for $99. The technology promises to introduce a new generation of water-sport enthusiasts to underwater viewing.

"Observing the aquatic environment and its many forms of life adds an entirely new dimension to nature-watching" says Nature Vision president and CEO, Jeff Zernov. "It's a natural for anyone curious about acquatic life. Fish TV is the most affordable means to satisfy this curiosity. Many families, especially those with kids, are fascinated by the idea of underwater viewing, and now they can afford to do so. We think that's pretty exciting."

The system includes a 5-inch black and white monitor with adjustable contrast and brightness, and a sunshield. The submersible underwater camera is actually shaped like a fish to minimize spooking, and includes built-in adjustable infrared lighting for low light viewing. Fifty-feet of camera cable allows users to easily probe the depths. Fish TV can be powered by ten regular C size batteries, or any external 12-volt battery via the auxiliary power cord included in the box. Finally, with a camera cable wrap/carrying handle mounted atop the monitor, the entire system is scarcely larger than an ice cream box.
