A Canadian herbal supplement company has begun marketing organic, wild grown Hoodia Gordonii, an African herb known for its high levels of steroidal glycoside - the principal appetite suppressant molecule in the plant. The company says organic certification is pending.
TORONTO, Aug. - A Canadian herbal supplement company has begun marketing organic, wild grown Hoodia Gordonii, an African herb known for its high levels of steroidal glycoside - the principal appetite suppressant molecule in the plant. The company says ECOCERT organic certification is pending.
Mark Doyle, General Manager of Millennium Health, the company marketing the herb, says "Cultivated Hoodia is gradually taking over the supply in the industry and cultivated material inherently has lower levels of active because the plants are typically harvested much sooner than wild Hoodia Gordonii."
The company says that lab analysis indicates their product contains significantly higher levels of steroidal glycoside.
Doyle says the herbs are thoroughly tested. "Every batch of WILD Hoodia Gordonii that we import is tested at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and again at Alkemists Pharmaceuticals in California. Preliminary testing in South Africa has revealed that this new material has 48% higher active levels than the Stellenbosch University reference sample."
