Dell today announced the Canadian expansion of its "Plant a Tree for Me" climate stewardship program, enabling businesses and consumers nationwide to offset the carbon impact of electricity required to power their computer equipment.
TORONTO - Dell today announced the Canadian expansion of its "Plant a Tree for Me" climate stewardship program, enabling businesses and consumers nationwide to offset the carbon impact of electricity required to power their computer equipment.
The company also renewed its commitment to free global recycling for consumers by announcing plans to host a back-to-school computer recycling event September 4-7 at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.

'Plant a Tree for Me'
For $2.10 CAN per notebook and $6.30 CAN per desktop, businesses and consumers in Canada can offset the emissions associated with the electricity required to power their information technology equipment. Dell Canada partners with The Conservation Fund, Carbonfund.org (www.carbonfund.org) and Tree Canada (www.treecanada.ca), non-profit organizations that plant trees in sustainably managed forests. One hundred percent of the donations received by the program will be used by partners to plant trees.

Environmental Stewardship
Dell's commitment to environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of its global business. Free Consumer Recycling
Dell launched its free recycling program for home users and small businesses in Canada in February 2005 and extended it in 2006 to corporate and other large customers through Dell Asset Recovery Services. Last month, Dell announced that it is ahead of schedule to achieve a global multi-year goal of recovering 125 million kilograms (about 275 million pounds) of equipment worldwide by 2009. The company reported the recovery of more than 78 million pounds (nearly 40,000 tons) of unwanted information-technology equipment from customers in 2006, a 93 percent increase compared to 2005 and 12.4 percent of the equipment it sold seven years earlier, more than any other manufacturer that reports recovery progress by
past sales weight.
Dell Canada recently hosted a one-day computer recycling event in Toronto that resulted in the collection of 8,800 kilograms of computer equipment for recycling.
In addition to providing product recycling and recovery programs, the company partners with the National Cristina Foundation, a non-profit public charity, to place used technology with local not-for-profit organizations, schools, and public agencies throughout North America and globally.
