Environmentalists pleased: Salon.com's Katharine Mieszkowski surveyed a few environmental activists and found them uniformly enthusiastic about the bill despite some consternation about cuts to public transit. In the end, the stimulus will provide $8.4 billion for public transit in the cities, plus $9.3 billion for intercity rail, while devoting $27.5 billion to highways.
Check your legislators: The Associated Press lists the votes of individual representatives for the final House vote on the compromise bill.
View from across the pond: The Guardian UK sent its science editor to Chicago for the annual meeting of the Annual Association for the Advancement of Science. This year's meeting coincided with the bicentennial of Charles Darwin's birth and featured Al Gore as the keynote speaker, but scientists there were most excited, Mark Henderson reports, about a particular Chicagoan.
