The Heat is Power Association provides a voice to the WH2P industry which offers a proven solution to ever-daunting economic and environmental hurdles – one that doesn't pit industry vs. the environment. We have the ability to bolster industrial efficiency, jobs and revenue while generating home-grown emission-free electricity. It is time to start realizing this potential.
Recent studies indicate that capturing the potential of Waste Heat to Power technology could generate 10 GW of electricity annually, enough to power 10 million American homes. This is an exciting time for our Association and for the industrial sector around the world. In the U.S. alone, capturing the full potential of WH2P could create 160,000 new American jobs, generate $3 billion in savings for American industry, and produce a significant amount of previously unrealized emission-free electricity.
While all forms of waste heat recovery technology provide an opportunity to increase efficiency, WH2P technology actually creates new emission-free electricity from a resource currently being wasted on a mass scale. Unfortunately, the definition of renewable energy has distracted policy from including all energies creating emission-free electricity and instead favors only traditional renewables. While waste heat generates the same end product as renewable sources, emission-free electricity, it has been ignored by today's standards. With the energy, environmental and economic challenges we are facing, we can ill afford to discount the possibilities of any viable solution, let alone a proven technology that answers all three! Let's not waste any more time.
There are opportunities everywhere to more robustly capture the opportunities that waste heat provides. From updating the U.S. tax code by passing the bipartisan Heat is Power Act to expanding inclusion in renewable energy standards beyond the 11 states already doing so, to educating the public about the great opportunity we are literally letting disappear into thin air, the Heat is Power Association is committed to it all.
